So April aka busy as hell. Mostly because of the worlds largest trivia contest which I once again had the pleasure take part of and the honor to play with the FREAKS. Its hard really to describe the contest to anyone not from the area or who has not played. Basically it is a fundraiser for the student run radio station here in Stevens Point. There are not many completely student run radio stations out there anymore so that makes them special. What also makes them special is the world largest trivia contest.
THe Contest starts at 6pm friday and goes straight through until midnight sunday. 54 hours of organized chaos. During those 54 hours on average 8 trivia questions are asked and you have the length of two short songs or one long 4 min song to answer the question. YOU call in your answer and depending on how many teams answer correctly determines the point value of the questions
Now these questions could be about anything. From movies to sports to radio programs to food packaging. Not too tought right. Well then there are the three music questions which is a music track that has 8 snippets of different songs and you have to identify which 8 songs are in there. Oh and the track is usually less than 20 secs so you do the math on that. There are also running questions Sat and SUn morning which are like a scavenger hunt in certain areas of town. Oh yeah and the trivia stone in which they give clues for you to figure out where to go in your car to get a stamp which gets you points. Like go past the blue meanie, the beatles song and the big fish, now turn right.
Oh yeah and then there are black and white pictures you need to identify like what is this logo from, who is this actor/ sports figure/ etc.
Oh and the trivia movie played a week or two before where you take notes in the dark theatre on the movie becuase they could be potential questions.
And the kick off parade which happens to be two hours before the begining of the contest. Our team is in it every year. We build a float as do other team and compete to be placed. Now no points are given for placing but there are bragging rights plus a lot of frozen pizzas given. Plus your team name gets out there for recognition.
IT is the most fun you could have while getting sleep deprived. It plays soley on the human nature of competition. It is something I think people need to experience once in a lifetime. Course I warn you , you could get hooked. I know I did.
But don't stay up all 54 hours cause you will get really really ill...not that I would know such things...I just ..heard.
The big thing is getting together with people you may not see the rest of the year. Sharing the experience and just having fun.
OUt of 450+ teams we took 26th. Not too bad and we all had fun while playing which is the important part.
It also helped break the creative block Ihave been having this past month so look for more of Fae'th to be posted . I have two lonely troopers in the works and have started a script for a short film.
YEah Trivia. can't wait until next year. Off to take some notes on movies...and commercials...and... tv shows....and....
